Over 10,000 American lives were saved during the Vietnam War by the actions of over 4,000 military working dogs and their handlers. On February 23, 1969, SSgt Robert Hartsock altered the course of the war and in so doing, became the first military working dog handler ever to receive the Medal of Honor.
